Carmie's Desk

I PAD'd a PAD, Amy-style. Carmen took it upon herself to make my recent PAD her desktop background, which tickled me. Upon further inspection of this image, I realize Carmen has a whole lotta Lori on her desk. On the right, you have the magazine with her hubby Jake's picture that she's left up since I gave it to her. Above that at the top of the cube wall are the Gold Stars given to her by her supervisor, Yours Truly. To the left of her monitor are a sampling of "Sharpies" I created as job tools. On top of her PC (to the left) is the heart-shaped pad of paper with smooches on it that I gave the team for Valentine's day.  Yep, lots of Lori here. She'll need it :(

Crazy Storm.

I left work at 5:10pm, it was light out. By the time I picked up Cassie and got home at 5:30pm, the skies had blackened and had rain/thunder/lightening to offer. It reminded me of a good monsoon in AZ - I miss those!

"Coffee in the Canteen"
This is the university "canteen," or, what we in the US would call a cafeteria. It's where we usually go for lunch (well, usually, I eat my lunch at my desk!) or to meet people for a chat, which is what I was doing here yesterday.

"Tomorrow Night's Supper"
I thought we'd have a Polish night. I know - store-bought pierogi! But last time I made them from scratch, so, I thought I'd compare mine with these readymade ones! I can't help but think about the fact that ten years ago, a supper like this wouldn't have been possible. It is only in the past few years that there has been a significant migration of Poles to the UK, leading to these "Polish" sections in the grocery store.

Middle Child

My poor baby Dixie - she is a middle child just like her Mama. I used to say if I had 3 kids, I'd sell one or buy another to round out the number.

Dixie was a very well planned addition to our family, she joined us one month before I got pregnant. (I remember Paul warning me not to get a second dog right before a baby, and have remembered that warning on several specific instances when it felt like we had 8 dogs in the house instead of 2). I have endless photos of Cooper, him being our first baby. Unfortunately I stopped taking photos through much of my pregnancy and of course Cassie took the camera spotlight afterward.

Despite the lack of photos, Dixie is an important and loved member of the DeLude clan. Dixie was born happy and has never stopped being happy. She is the happiest being I've ever known - she has never been mad or sad in her life. All she asks for in return are cuddles, love, and chewies. (not even food, she blissfully does not beg)

I truly believe she was put on this earth to cuddle with me. Cooper puts up with about 5 minutes (or less) of cuddles before going to find his own space, Jim puts up with about 1 minute of cuddles before finding his own space or falling asleep, and Cassie - well, I love my wiggle monkey however I have to steal cuddles while she is sick or sleeping. But Dixie -- she's my cuddle bug. She has a way of molding into you wherever you are. She even cuddles with Jim, and he lets her. He has always had a "no dogs on the bed" rule - which I've bent by letting Cooper up before Jim goes to bed and kicks him off. Somehow, Dixie has managed to sleep on the bed with us - when Jim grumbles, I tell her to lick his ear. When she does, he giggles (yes, I said 'giggles') and tells her to at least stay off his side of the bed. He calls her "The Rat" because sometimes she looks like Templeton from Charlotte's Web with her long nose. Dixie's always near us, so when she's absent, Jim'll ask, "where's the rat?" --- it's just a reminder of how much he loves her, that he notices when she's not around.

She's 10 pounds of love and cuddles, she's a middle child, and that makes her as special as her Mama. I took this pic from the dinner table on the deck - in the evening the sun sets across the street and only a small patch of direct light falls on our very back wall ... Dixie sits out there, looking tiny against the big wall, soaking in the final rays of the day. I used my zoom on the P&S so it's not as crisp as I'd like it to be, but clearly this post is not about photographic technique :)

(Dixie celebrates her 2nd birthday on June 14th by the way!)

Saving a Seat for my SS
The first time I went to NYC in December 2008 with Amy, she introduced me to a Peppermint Mocha Frappucino. Last year, we did not go to NYC but we did spend an evening at Borders, sitting in these two chairs. Today, I ordered Border's equivalent to a Peppermint Mocha Frappucino and saved a seat for my SS, who was there in spirit.

"Hungarian Goulash with an Albanian Viking"
We had an awesome date night last night. Matt took me to the local Hungarian restaurant - probably the only authentic Hungarian restaurant in all of Scotland! The place was amazing - the interior totally reminded me of being in Eastern Europe. The owner kept coming over and talking to us, which is service you never get in any of the restaurants here, which are all chains. Afterward, we went to a whiskey bar where they served 100s of kinds of whiskey. The air was warm, I was wearing my sandals, I had a wonderful man by my side, and the sun seemed to never set...and all is right with the world.
(Matt has Albanian blood, by the way...and also Polish and Irish!)

"Flip-floppin'"
There are only, like, 3 days per year that you can wear sandals in Scotland without your toes freezing off. This was one of them, and I sure as heck made the most of it!

Exit Ramp

I held my phone straight at the top of my steering wheel as I started to exit Rt 9 tonight, then never moved the phone as I turned the steering wheel to the right as I rounded the exit ramp. So - this is a straight picture. Right?

50% Off

Most holidays, Goodwill marks everything in the store 50% off. I purchased my wicker loveseat & huge bookcase in my dining/family room on President's day for $25 each. It's like a giant tag sale where you never have to worry about rain. This Memorial Day, I set off for my latest holiday find. Jim was confident I would not go crazy, since our house is small, packed with furniture, and has no storage.

Behold my latest find - a piece of furniture made just for shoes!!! I got it for $7.50!!! Never tell me there is no room for more furniture ~ I turned this into a bedside table, since there was no where else for it to fit. I repeat - a piece of furniture made specifically for shoes!!! For $7.50!!

Carol would be proud :)

Paul - that pic on the wall is one I took a few years back on River Road.

Nope, I didn't crop this one. Just had fun composing it while he was not looking - then snapped it when he looked at me.

After Party

I love spending time with my Cassie Carol. I love having/hosting picnics. I love taking pictures. Turns out - it's near impossible to do all 3 at the same time. Her birthday party was anything but what I expected. My easy-going girl who will go to anyone spent the first 1/2 of the party crying and insisting on being attached to my hip. Half of her birthday outfit never made it on due to the heat and humidity. She spent the second half of the party sleeping and missed the meal and the cake. I never got to take photos beyond a few on my phone, I was so busy with entertaining and making sure everyone was happy. The guests had a good time - Cass and I were another story.

After most guests left, only two of our closest friends remained (& the adult beverages were opened), the Birthday Girl was stripped of her outfit and took a swim in her pool with Papa's crocs. She was in her glory - lesson learned. Simple is better sometimes!

Cassie's Auntie and Uncle T brought over her new house the night before the big party.
Papa got to put it together.
