I'm not really a fan of the royals - I don't believe in hereditary rule - but I am a total sucker for royal weddings. I remember watching Diana and Charles' when I was a kid, and I have been totally excited about this one ever since it was announced. There are a lot of reasons for this - firstly, the two have been going out for 8 years and seem truly in love; secondly, they are both art historians, and studied art history at the Scottish university where they met (not Aberdeen, but St. Andrews!); and third, well, it is always a lovely thing to watch a wedding when you're in love yourself.
The wedding was awesome, and I had a really fun time 'watching' it with my mom via Yahoo messenger and with other friends of mine in the US and Germany via Facebook. The ceremony was lovely, but the best part was watching for when Will and Kate caught each others' eyes and smiled or said something to one another. They both seemed so happy and in love. But that was the extent of the affection that was allowed in Westminster Abbey today! So, I was waiting and waiting for the famous kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. They kissed once, and it was somewhat bland and perfunctory, but the crowd was chanting and demanded that they kiss again. And that one seemed so genuine - it was true love's kiss.
But all the time, throughout the ceremony, I was thinking about the wonderful time that my Viking (who was home working) and I spent in London at the very places that I was watching on TV - Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, St. James' Park.
