Sanity

We all have things that keep us sane at work, for Carmen it's music & her hubby Jake.

I saw this PAD opportunity as I was at Carm's desk today. She was just working away with this set-up to keep her going. Thank you Carmie for letting me use your Droid Incredible for this PAD, since my cameras were at home and my Palm Pre takes yucky photos.

(ahem, notice my Sharpie instructions in the back ~ my peep's desks are covered with those)

Corned Beef & Cabbage

It was my first time making it, and Jim said it came out great.
Bleh, I'll take his word for it!

Fizzy Tub Colors

Amy, if these are not sold in Scotland I will be happy to ship some to you just for the PADs that might come from them on your end!!

Well, coffee for one, tea for one. Guess who has a big presentation tomorrow? And guess who is being a supportive girlfriend (or trying to be :) ?

The End Is Near .... on Friday we FINALLY switch from Dish Network to DirectTV. Although we are going from one Satellite to another, we are optimistic that our service will be better. In the spirit of Gratitude, we've had terrible/spotty/no service since January and we've discovered that we really do not need to watch TV as often as we used to! We often opt to keep the radio on instead of TV. Cassie is at the age where a lot of parents plop the kids in front of the TV and so far, she has no regular TV-routine. She'll watch Elmo videos online but that's about it.

"One Bright Spot"
Today was one of those cold Aberdeen days where you don't want to leave your house. It was actually snowing this morning! (We haven't seen snow since Amy's Great Airport Adventure of December!) I've always loved having fresh flowers in the house, and it is a habit that I got into when I was living in Riga (Latvians love flowers, and give them on every occasion, so there are flower shops, stands and stalls everywhere). I picked these up when I went grocery shopping today - pink and white carnations, a lovely bright spot in this otherwise gloomy and dreary day.

"Here's Lookin' at You"
Apparently, reflections is my accidental PAD theme for March...I played around with this image for a while when I was at work yesterday. It was a difficult image to capture, because it was hard to get the angle right, include both of my eyes, and not have my nose or hair in the way. I chose this image because it was the only one that I got where it looked like my eyes were actually looking at you, the viewer. I wish that this had also been the one where the eyes and hand were in focus, and not the background, but, oh well. I still think it's fun :)

"New Dress, New Shoes"
I cannot tell a lie. I didn't take this picture on Thursday. For the first time ever, I forgot to PAD. BUT, I did think about it on Thursday, and even remembered, late Thursday night, that I had forgotten. All day I had thought that I wanted to take a picture of my new shoes, new dress, or new haircut. So, the thought was there, but I didn't want to lie and say that I took this picture on Thursday when I didn't!
I was actually going to title this something along the lines of "the carpet and drapes match the dress" because I thought it was so funny how my new dress matches my bedroom! (not planned :)
Buying the dress was a big deal. I don't have a lot of clothes that fit me anymore, now that I've shrunk ;-) but I am also trying to save for a house, and have been trying to be really good about non-essential spending. But every now and then a girl needs a treat. The bonus was that the shoes were only £10 - wicked cheap for the UK! :)

Old Friends

I drive through these trees nearly every day and cannot help but think they are holding hands across the street.

It was a dark, rainy day this morning (enhanced through my LR sliders) and I saw these two friends holding hands through the storm.

Metaphor? Of course.

We had a pancake supper at church on Shrove Tuesday. This was the only photo I took all day long, despite having had some fantastic opportunities with the surprising appearance of the sun throughout the day while I was driving in the hills around Portland.

Can anyone guess why I took this particular photo?

Leftover Brown Rice Pasta + Leftover Scrambled Eggs + Ketchup = Comfort Food.

Not exactly the effect I was going for, but I got tired of playing around with the images. Following on from my images of reflections, I was hoping to capture a nice reflection in my glasses, but this one isn't exactly clear.
The idea for the photo may also have come from Lori's recent post :)

"Pancake Day"
In the UK, the day before Lent is celebrated as Pancake Day. So, I made pancakes for me and the Viking. Actually, the Viking helped me by making the eggs and the bacon :)

A or B?

Before I tell you which frames I selected at Lens Crafters today, I'll let you tell me which you would have chosen: (as they say in the Dr's office: Which looks better, A or B?)

A: The Versace frames on the left
B: The Anne Klein frames on the right

"Sunny Day"
Today was a gorgeously sunny day in Aberdeen. I snapped this when I went out to get a cup of coffee to get myself through my lecture today. In a rare moment on PAD, I've uploaded it without any editing! It was just too sunny to touch!

And yes, I consider myself incredibly lucky to work on a campus this beautiful.

Slowly but surely ..

The play/family room is coming together. This is the rug I carefully selected. Although I will try to keep it clean(since she started crawling, I vacuum more than I thought I ever would), I chose it because white & black dog hairs will not be obvious, nor will spit up, juice, mushy cookies, or anything else :)

I just need to get a play table for Her Highness, and some decorations/art for her special corner in the room. Jim has suggested my photography - no pressure.

Cassidy

Although it is not the reason we chose her name, Cassidy means 'Curly Haired Girl'. She's got two curls to prove it so far - one on each side of her head. In the "While She Sleeps" theme, I grabbed this one while she snoozed on my shoulder.
(FYI - we chose Cassidy primarily because it goes well with her middle name, Carol, and because it is versatile to have a few nicknames - unlike Lori)

"Windows to the Soul"
Luckily I took a moment out of my day to play with my camera in my office. This series of 'eye' photos were the only ones I took yesterday. I'm not particularly happy with any of them, but it's all I've got to show for yesterday (at least as far as PAD is concerned!). I was interested in the reflections I could capture in my eyeballs, which happen to be the windows in my office.

I didn't do much for PAD today, so today's entry is journalistic in nature ~ I'm lucky to have the team I do .. here you see Damien hard at work, taking a break from assembling the Leaf Bed Canopy from Ikea that I bought for Cassie's room. The guy put his kitchen in place from IKEA, so I decided he was the best man for the Leaf job.

Of course, someday my PAD will be the canopy in place (while she sleeps).

03/03/11 - Lori

While She Sleeps..

... I lurk in her room with my camera.

(I dislike myself for the next comment but feel compelled to say it more than I dislike myself for saying it) This is a good example of a PAD shot where I took what I could to post -- the ISO should have been lowered, I should have used a tripod, I should have used a smaller aperture, etc - all that might have happened if this were not PAD and if I was not exhausted at the end of an exhausting day when I said frequently, "I am not happy with Humankind today". Yep, it was that kind of day. Taking photos while Cassie slept and not worrying about technique may have been my most peaceful time of day - so here you have this grainy, out of focus, dark photo.

My Facebook Status today is: I think a new bag (or 3) can make anyone's week just a little brighter. Amy asked for a pic, so here it is!

Robbie, one of my employees, has a lunch bag I've admired for a while. I learned that her sister runs a shop in Berlin that sells them for a good cause. The shop is called 'A Good Cause Gift Shop' - they do not have a website, but I found this article for reference.

Robbie brought in a collection of bags to sell to us at work - she's a good saleswoman! I immediately grabbed the green lunch bag for $21.95. Robbie then convinced me that Cassie needs a lunch bag - SOLD on the small brown one ($6.95). THEN Robbie convinced me that I had to get the big bag to match Cassie's small bag ($6.95) for when I have a lot to pack for her. SOLD. Hey, it's for a good cause!
