Refused Nap!??!!??!!
I took this photo when we got home from daycare, anticipating it would be a good way to explain what was going to be a challenging evening with Her Highness. Nope - she proved to us once again that it's impossible to predict the behavior of a toddler. She was in a GREAT mood!
Refused Nap? Nah .. Maybe they got her report card mixed up with someone else's!

Late at night I realized I had not taken a photo so I used my new Instagram App on the iPhone to take this one. The jury's still out on the app.

My favorite photo from today actually another one I took, however in the end I chose this one for PAD because it seems to be a better example of what I strive for on PAD.

Sometimes I wish Cassie had a "Pause" button so I could frame a certain shot "just so". 'Tis not the case, so I get what I get instead!

Cassie Who
This is a severely cropped iPhone photo - I've wanted to get one of this pigtail which always curls like this and it's a challenge because she's always moving her head!. She looks like a Who with this curl!

It's a rainy day in Aberdeen. This means that absolutely everyone is out and about, and British towns are far too small for the amount of cars that are on the road now. When I was driving Matt to the bus station (he's going out of town for the weekend with his classmates), I got stuck in traffic, so he actually had to get out and walk (sad that that ended up being faster). Union Street, the main shopping street in town, was packed - cars everywhere, and people flooding the sidewalks and into the roads. I'm enjoying spending the rest of the day tucked in and snuggled up on my couch :)

Never in a million years would I have imagined, back in December, when I stood in line for five hours waiting to be rebooked from my Air France flight home that had been canceled, that six months later the guy standing next to me in that line would be taking me out to a romantic dinner at the most amazing French restaurant in Aberdeen, to celebrate an awesome half year of knowing one another.
Oh, and this was the most amazing creme brulee ever, too!

Day three: we set out on a rainy west coast morning for Eilean Donan Castle, the most picturesque castle in Scotland, which I had never heard of, and which Matt found for us as a destination. It was as pretty as predicted, and we even discovered that it was the setting for some scenes in Highlander, one of Matt's favourite movies. I don't really enjoy rainy weather, but sometimes Scotland looks even more picturesque with its moody skies.

On day two of our vacation, we stopped at the Elphin Tea Room. Location: beautiful valley, the middle of nowhere. ...I had told Matt that the random tea rooms in this middle of the countryside usually have the best teas and cakes, so we decided to stop. And I was so glad we did. It was warm enough to sit outside (yay!), the cakes were lovely, the view was gorgeous, and their were chickens or roosters milling around us as we ate, a family of sheep in front of us. And of course I had so much fun capturing this moment in the reflection of the tea pot!

This is the vacation that almost didn't happen, but it did, and it was AWESOME. My darling Viking got sick last week, and neither of us got much sleep on Friday night, the night before we were supposed to go away on vacation. Might I add that this is the first actual vacation I have taken from work since I started this job - not counting Christmas break, which everyone gets off, nor research trips, which are not vacations, but just working in foreign locations. I actually requested vacation days - first time ever. So I was really looking forward to this, and I really needed this vacation...
We woke up late on Saturday and had a long talk about whether to go or not - if it would be worth it if one of us was sick, if we couldn't sleep, etc. We decided to cut the trip short - instead of going away for five days, we went for three. We set off around 1pm on Saturday, and by around 9PM we had reached the furthest point possible to travel to on the UK mainland - John o'Groats. We had literally drive to the ends of the earth! We arrived at the hotel - which was essentially a woman's farmhouse - settled in, and then drove to the very endpoint of the land there to watch the sunset. It was an amazingly gorgeous sunset - pictures of that will follow on facebook. When I was a teenager, I used to dream about walking on the beach hand in hand with a man that I loved, watching the sunset together. My dream had come true! There we were - me, my man, the beach, and the most gorgeous sunset - Bliss!
This is a picture of the last house in Scotland, a reflection of the sunset, and a Viking in the distance.
PS This 'sunset' occurred at about 11PM!!!

Lori will appreciate this story. The move to an online payment system in our department meant the elimination of petty cash, which meant that paying for our end-of-the-year party for our graduating seniors would be...well...challenging. In the end, we succeeded in getting food for our party, but we were forced to go through university catering, which charged an arm and a leg for a plate of potato chips and a few peanuts. The resulting spread was laughable, considering the amount of money we spent (even though it would have been cheaper to use cash and just go and buy the stuff ourselves)...so our secretary attempted to supplement our salty snacks by dividing up a few muffins she had left over from lunch. But since the party was for 30 people, we had to divide them up a bit.
Just another example of bureaucracy in the workplace...

Carmie's Desk
I PAD'd a PAD, Amy-style. Carmen took it upon herself to make my recent PAD her desktop background, which tickled me. Upon further inspection of this image, I realize Carmen has a whole lotta Lori on her desk. On the right, you have the magazine with her hubby Jake's picture that she's left up since I gave it to her. Above that at the top of the cube wall are the Gold Stars given to her by her supervisor, Yours Truly. To the left of her monitor are a sampling of "Sharpies" I created as job tools. On top of her PC (to the left) is the heart-shaped pad of paper with smooches on it that I gave the team for Valentine's day. Yep, lots of Lori here. She'll need it :(

Crazy Storm.
I left work at 5:10pm, it was light out. By the time I picked up Cassie and got home at 5:30pm, the skies had blackened and had rain/thunder/lightening to offer. It reminded me of a good monsoon in AZ - I miss those!
