"At the end, there is a rainbow"
When I was leaving the office on Thursday, Viking said to me 'you might want to get your camera out, there's a rainbow outside.' Firstly, I was excited at how well he knows me, and knew that I'd want to photograph it. Secondly, I remembered a photo I took almost two years ago, of a rainbow on the beach here in Aberdeen. It was my first summer here, and I was incredibly depressed. I was having a difficult time adjusting to my new place, and hadn't yet found my footing. I went around Aberdeen taking pictures and, as usual, it reinvigorated me. I posted the pictures on facebook, and gave the album the same title as the title of this entry. I think in some ways it was a symbol of hope for me, and somehow, I knew that things would get better. Now, looking back on two years ago, I smile at just how far I've come. Rainbow, indeed!

  1. When I first saw this photo of yours it reminded me of a photo I took just two days before. However, mine carried none of the hope for me. In mine I found only frustration.

Isn't it interesting how such similar images can provoke such disparate emotions?

  2. I suppose I *did* open that door...

I felt frustration when I was shooting up there because I felt pressured by time (I still had a long drive ahead of me and I was already tired and just wanted to get on the road again) and the lack of better light. The best way to get good photos is to get the right light and there's a bit of chance involved. If you're willing to sit around and wait (days, weeks, months, etc.) for the right light then you'll probably eventually get that shot. When you've stopped for all of an hour or two to snap some photos you can't really hope to get that light - though if you do you'd best be thankful! :)

I was also frustrated afterward when I was reviewing the photos on my computer because of the obvious flaws in the image. If you can't see them then I certainly won't point them out (here, at least) ;).

Lastly, I was frustrated because of the dirty sensors on all of my cameras. It's getting a bit out of hand. I really need to either get them professionally cleaned or bite the bullet and do it myself.
