Hell freezes over...

I know, I know - it's a posed generic picture of my two sons. BUT, I was in shock when I looked over and the two of them were hugging each other and actually doing something other than trying to kill one another. I seized the moment and asked them to quickly smile for the camera.

  1. While I don't know them very well at all, and consequently don't know their propensity for violence toward each other, I’d say you’ve done well at capturing their likenesses. The exposure and overall balance of the composition is well done and pleasing but (and why does there always have to be a "but," Paul?) the sharpness of the photo is lacking and is particularly noticeable in the details when looking at the larger file. Still, a great shot.

  2. Ignore Paul, Dennis (I often do) ~ or at least take his "but" with a grain of salt. I adore this picture, and would frame it (even if printed as Paul said it might). For a posed picture, it is NOT generic in my eyes. There's a story there and that is never generic. In my mind, a "posed generic" photo is one where two people stand next to each other and smile for the camera. (Watch, that'll be my PAD tomorrow! hehe) I adore the composition, and the DOF works really well.

Your older son (Wil or Ben?) smiles with his eyes. That makes me want to get to know him. How old are they? I am the Youth Advisor for the teens in my church and spend a lot of time with teens. It's time I really do not have in my life right now, but every moment I spend with them gives me insight and perspective that I truly enjoy.

  3. Thanks for the comments Paul and Lori.

Lori - Wil is 14, and Ben is 8. We definitely wanted to have them closer together in age, but overall, they do pretty well together. The sibling rivalry has seemed to get exponentially worse as Wil has grown into his teenager years - but they're still good kids.
