01/26/11 - Lori

We took Frenchie to his new apartment in Staten Island today. This is across the street from his new house; I am not sure what it is but loved it for it's color! I only had a moment to snap a shot, because it was snowing hard and Jim was anxious to get on the road home ~ I've learned to snap fast when he's in a hurry. I purposely used the flash on my P&S to grab some of the snow flakes and was pleased it worked. (although I would have liked to have seen more!) I know I'll re-shoot this many ways when we go back!

  1. I'm amazed that you've never heard of kung fu (功夫). Have you never seen a Jackie Chan movie?

And as for tai chi, you should check in with one of its practitioners, Nursie Blouin. Rumor on the street is she kicks some tai chi every morning, though I have yet to witness it myself. I'll pay good money for some video of that - preferably posted online. :)

I'm sure Mark will ding you for the vignetting here (or at least use the opportunity to assault me) but I think it's subtle enough to work to the photo's advantage. The red looks way over saturated and I can see artifacts in there. Overall though, I like this shot - this so-called snap {shudder!} - but you have yet again denied us of seeing the photo in a bigger size!

  2. I love this photo!! Love, love, love the bright red! Love the snowflakes! Love the NY feel with the signs and bricks in the background. Love the parking sign in the upper left. This was the first thing I saw when I opening up PAD this morning and it just jumped out at me and said: "have a great, bright and cheerful day!" :)

  3. Paul - I used a different preset on this one - never used it before: Direct Positive. As for the vignetting, it is a personal preference for sure. I was not going there with this photo, then realized the corners were a bit dark anyway. I can send you the original.
